Habitat for Humanity and Building Efficiency Team Up on a Community Housing Project
Building Efficiency, in partnership with Habitat for Humanity, is helping our community grow stronger. Here at Building Efficiency we value our local community and are proud to provide our services to those most in need. Over the past year we have developed a close relationship with Habitat for Humanity and are excited to be part of their first project on the Peninsula.
7555 Mission St. in Daly City, is a community project that features 34 three-bedroom, two bath homes and two two-bedroom, two bath homes for low income families. All of the units in the three-story building are 1,100 square feet and include parking. Through an extensive application process all 36 units have been filled and the project is fully completed.
Building Efficiency’s team of trained professionals assisted 7555 Mission achieve its Energy Star certification. This ensures that the building complies with today’s energy efficiency standards and was able to secure national grant funding to complete the project. In addition, Building Efficiency’s Insulation and Heating & Cooling division executed training exercises with the Habitat for Humanity building team, and conducted an insulation and duct leakage inspection at the completion of each phase. With the help of Building Efficiency the 7555 Mission St. Project resulted in an Energy Star New Homes Certification.
We at Building Efficiency are extremely proud of our participation in this project that enabled members of our community to move into a new, comfortable, and efficient home.

Brian and Kelley Johnson could tell their new home wasn’t airtight.
Drafts brought in the chill that permeates the Sunset neighborhood, deep within San Francisco’s fog belt. The furnace didn’t seem to help much.
“I didn’t like the fact that we were heating the neighborhood,” said Brian Johnson, 45.
The house wasn’t just uncomfortable. It was wasting energy. So when the couple heard that programs from the city and the state offer rebates worth as much as $7,000 to make homes more energy-efficient, they signed up.
Contractors vetted by the city insulated the walls and ceilings, put flashing around doors to stop the drafts, rebuilt the system that returns air to the furnace and fixed the thermostat, which turned out to be broken. They wrapped up the work in May – and the Johnsons haven’t needed the furnace yet. The insulation keeps the house cozy
